About this treatment

Why book an appointment with a Hearing Care technician?

Good ear and hearing health is important to people of all ages. If you are suffering from blocked ears or suspect that there is a build-up of wax in your ears, or are experiences any of the symptoms listed above you should book an appointment with our Hearing Care Technician at our Daneshill Clinic in Basingstoke.

Prior to your appointment, we recommend all Patients soften their wax for 3 days prior to their appointments. Our product of choice is Earol and this is available from the clinic or in your local pharmacy.

What is ear wax?

Ear wax is a naturally occurring protection for the ear canal. It serves to trap dust and other small particles, preventing them from reaching the ear drum and causing potential damage or infection. Normally, wax dries up and falls out of the ear, however occasionally it blocks the ear canal causing a range of symptoms from hearing loss, tinnitus and dizziness, to ear or sinus pain.

In almost most instances,  removing blocked ear wax will relieve symptoms immediately and take only one session to resolve if you have used the recommended ear drops before your appointment.

A common mistake when trying to clear blocked ears is the use of a cotton bud. This will often push the wax towards the ear drum and cause what is known as compaction. A Hearing Care Technician will use micro suction to gently remove the wax without causing this compaction depending on your specific need.

At Physical Balance, our Hearing Care Technician uses the industry gold standard Tympa system for the treatment for ear wax removal. This is a quick, safe and painless procedure which gently sucks the ear wax from the ear canal.  If there is no wax in your ears our technician can refer to your GP for further investigation.

Your ear wax removal appointment will take place at the Physical Balance clinic in Daneshill, Basingstoke.
