Mat Pilates, a floor-based exercise method, focused on building core strength, flexibility, and overall body awareness. Developed by Joseph Pilates it is accessible and adaptable, relying on body weight resistance and small props like TheraBand. The emphasis is on core muscles, enhancing posture and balance through a series of seamless floor exercises. It is adaptable and suitable for individuals of various fitness levels. The exercises, ranging from classics like "The Hundred" to variations of planks and stretches, offer a comprehensive approach to physical well-being.
If you are pregnant and considering attending our Pilates or Yoga classes, we strongly recommend contacting The Studio before booking so we can guide you towards the safest and most appropriate option for you.
We do not currently offer dedicated pregnancy mat classes, and modifications during pregnancy require careful consideration based on your previous experience, stage of pregnancy and individual needs.
I am already an existing mat client - can I continue during pregnancy?
In many cases, clients who were regularly attending mat classes before pregnancy may be able to continue training during pregnancy with appropriate modifications.
However, before continuing with group classes, we require all pregnant clients to complete a 1:1 session with one of our pregnancy-trained instructors. This allows us to:
• Discuss your current stage of pregnancy
• Review any symptoms or considerations
• Go through appropriate exercise modifications
• Ensure you can safely participate within a group environment
Please note that certain exercises and positions may need to be adjusted or avoided as pregnancy progresses.
I am new to mat classes and pregnant - can I join classes?
At this time, we do not recommend group mat classes for clients who are new to us and currently pregnant.
If you are pregnant and would like to begin mat classes, we recommend starting with ongoing 1:1 sessions with a pregnancy-trained instructor. This allows us to provide personalised guidance, appropriate modifications and a safe introduction to the equipment and exercises throughout your pregnancy journey.
Joseph Pilates famously said: “In 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 you will see the difference, and in 30 you'll have a whole new body.”
In an ideal world 3 sessions a week will show quickest results. If this is not an option for you 2 sessions a week is advisable. This can be a split between one reformer class a week and one mat class a week or two reformer classes. Chat to your instructor to find the best fit for your schedule and your budget to achieve quickest results.
Please use your online Momence portal or App should you need to cancel a class at any time.

If you are on the waitlist and a space becomes available, you will receive a text message offering you the opportunity to confirm your space. It will be held for you for 30 minutes. Should you not confirm within 30 minutes, the next person on the waitlist will automatically be offered the spot and so on down the waitlist. Should no one on the waitlist confirm by text, the spot will then be made available to book via the app.
