Expectant Mothers and Your Growing Child

Osteopathic treatment through pregnancy is a safe and gentle way of helping the body cope with the changes that are taking place. The expectant mother will experience softening of ligaments, weight increase and changes to their posture. This in turn can lead to additional pressure on joints in various parts of the body, including the spine and pelvis.

Not only will the Osteopath address the problems with hands-on treatment, they will also offer advice on exercise and posture. Osteopaths can help expectant mothers with symptoms such as:

  • Low back pain

  • Sciatic Pain

  • Headaches arising from the neck

Babies – Osteopathy for babies and infants is a subtle form of treatment, addressing stresses and stains of the whole body.  This form of treatment does not address specific conditions, but gentle manipulation could help soothe and relax your baby.

Infant to Teenagers – Osteopathy is a gentle treatment, which is also suitable for children and babies.  Like adults, general joint and muscle issues can affect children.  During your child’s appointment an Osteopath will assess your child’s individual needs in order to help them as they grow through the many stages from infants to teenagers.

The well being of babies and children is our primary concern, so during your child’s appointment, a full case history will be taken to establish if treatment is appropriate.  We always recommend that if you have any concern regarding your child’s general health, please ensure you discuss it with your GP or Health Visitor first.
